Went to bed around 1am and woke up around 5:30am and can’t fall back asleep. So I’ll just post about my first 2 days.
I’m currently in Berlin. The history of this city just amazes me. Berlin has gone through A LOOOTTT. It’s seriously crazy how this city has evolved from WW1->WW2->80s-> present day. One thing I find super amazing is that after WW2 only 10% of the city survived. So relatively speaking, the buildings of this city are pretty young. The street art life and everything regarding East Berlin is so hipster and artsy. The history behind that area is super interesting from how the art movement started and the constant gentrification that is currently going on. I still can’t get over how cute the German Emma Stone tour guide was :3
The night life here is pretty crazy. Nothing really starts until 2am and places don’t close until 5 or 6am. The only people are partying before 2 are the tourists (guilty of doing so). The night that I went out, the club I ended up going was offering 2 Jaeger bombs for 5€. SUPER CHEAP. Definitely got drunk on a budget. Even though it’s pretty safe to be going out that late and walking back to the hostel by myself (since there are other people doing so), everywhere looks sketch and makes you feel like you’re gonna get stabbed.
The U-Bahn, S-Bahn, and all other public transport here is fantastic. Makes it super easy for tourists like me to get to the areas I want without a need for a car. Everything stops after 12:30am and starts back up at 4am, which is convenient for after partying.
So about the people I have encountered the past 2 days. After getting off the plane, I had absolutely no clue what I needed to do in order to get to my hostel. I looked like an idiot trying to find my way but whatever. Also right as I got onto the buses and trains, little kids going to school kept on giving me glances and it was obvious they were whispering about me. I feel like they rarely see Asians or at least Filipinos. Everyone here dresses pretty trendy. I think it comes with the personality of the city. The rich & posh people and the hipster & punk people that pretty much represents the east and west sides of Berlin. Anyways after doing of my crap at the hostel, I went straight to doing touristy shit. In the free walking tour I took, Leo the tour guide, asked if there was any Americans in the group. Me and another kid raised our hands. That’s how I met Elijah, who is a recent neuroscience grad from wash u. Pretty chill dude and basically became my buddy for this Berlin trip. Later on the tour I met his roommates who were two girls from New Zealand. I talked to them and they have been friggin traveling through out Europe for 5 fuckin months. After awhile, I went back to the hostel to rest and that when I met 2 of my roommates. The 2 girls were from Brazil and the guy friend they had with them was from Munich.
Ok I’m killing my battery and I’m getting tired of writing so I’ll continue this maybe later…. Lol.
